"Who is Driving the Car?"
Mabel and Clarice, two elderly women, were on their way to church one Sunday. Mabel was driving. Clarice, as the passenger in the car, was enjoying the beautiful spring day-that was until she noticed that Mabel was running the red lights. The third time that Mabel ignored the stop signal Clarice, who by this time was very dismayed, decided to bring it to Mabel's attention.
"Mabel, what is the matter with you? That is the third red light that you have ignored and driven through," Clarice exclaimed.
Mabel responded, "Oh my Clarice, am I driving?"
Do you have days when you, like Mabel, forget that you are in the driver's seat, and like Clarice may realize that you are ignoring the traffic signals of life? Have you had moments when you realize that you have been asleep at the wheel of your life's vehicle? Have you ever been surprised at the collisions between your dreams and your experiences, and realized that you have not been attentive to your life?
Living a conscious and fully engaged life can ensure that you attain your personal and professional goals. If you muddle through life ignoring the little signals along the way that let you know that you are on or off course or suggest that you take a different direction, attaining your goals may be a lengthier and more difficult process. When you live a conscious life, you are more aware of your surroundings and you can take a more active role in making things happen.
When we forget the role that we play in our life's journey, we may tend to erroneously believe that our lives depend totally on what others do, believe, or say. We then view ourselves as victims or lacking control over the events that occur. We may find ourselves forgetting that we are the drivers and we control our destination through good or poor choices and decisions.
If you want to have the best life that you can have, put both hands on the steering wheel, be the driving force that gets you where you want to go, and pay attention to the signals along the way.
Affirmation for the Week:
“I am in the driver's seat in my life journey. I am attentive and conscious of the signs and directions that I receive and I take responsibility for the direction of my life.”
Have a consciously aware week!
