There is an oft-ignored phenomenon at work in our lives. Those who live a consciously-aware life are familiar with this phenomenon.
They use their knowledge of this principle to govern their actions so that their lives are more peaceful and more meaningful.
What is this phenomenon? The principle of “what goes around, comes around.”
Have you ever experienced or participated in an action or event that demonstrated this principle?
Think back on some of the surprising events of your life:
- You give flowers or another gift to someone, and you receive an unexpected gift from a surprising source.
- You smile as you greet someone who seems to be having a challenging day, and it seems to have a positive impact upon that person. A few days later, you find yourself having a challenging day, and you are the recipient of kind words and a smile that lift your spirits.
- You make a donation to a charitable event, even though money is a little tight, and you receive an unexpected gift that fills a need.
- You provide assistance to a stranded motorist and when your car breaks down, someone unexpectedly appears to provide assistance to you.
These are but a few examples that demonstrate the “what goes around, comes around” principle. This same principle can have negative consequences if your actions or deeds are negative. Think about that “very bad day” you had when you handled a situation poorly and it seemed that bad luck came at you from every direction.
If you stop and think back on how you responded to a situation, you might be able to see this principle in action. By contemplating the possible impact of your thoughts and behaviors, you may discover that the seed you planted previously resulted in that particular outcome.
We do have a great deal of control over what happens to us in our lives. If we adopt and practice the idea that “what goes around, comes around” we can positively impact many events in our lives. Sometimes it may be that we choose to view a situation in a different manner and, as a result, it has a different impact on lives.
The greatest gift that you can give to others and to yourself is to take responsibility and be accountable for your life. Recognizing that we have control over our actions, and our reactions, is a power-filled recognition that can help us meet the challenges that life may bring to us.
